The board pack everyone reads and nobody trusts

Polished reporting and reliable reporting are not the same thing — and boards can usually tell the difference.
A board pack that takes three weeks to assemble and gets three questions in the meeting is a signal, not a coincidence. Usually it means the numbers are being reconciled for the deck rather than pulled from a financial model the business actually runs on day to day.
The businesses whose board meetings run differently share one trait: the reporting pack is a view into a live model, not a document produced in parallel to one. That difference shows up in how confidently the CFO answers a follow-up question that wasn’t on the slide.
